Color Sorters
T.W. Commodities purchased two Agrivision color sorters in 1997. These color sorters are used primarily to sort kabuli chickpeas. These color sorters have enabled us to improve the quality of our product and therefore the value to our customers.
The sorters look at individual seeds on a drum passing by a video camera. The image is processed by a computer, which decides if each seed is kept or rejected according to the parameters the operator has inputted into the control panel. A corresponding air valve located under the pockets of the drum ejects undesirable seeds. This system is able to sort 9mm kabuli chickpeas at a rate of 7000 pounds per hour.
In the fall of 2004 we purchased and installed a Satake Alpha Scan color sorter. This system is used primarily for sorting Lentils. The capacity of the Alpha Scan is approximately 150 bushels per hour. We are able to upgrade product by 2 or 3 grades, depending on the quality of the product. There is minimal loss of good product into the rejects from this sorter.

Automation System
In the summer of 2001, T.W. Commodities installed an automated computerized system for the cleaning lines. This system monitors shaft speeds, bin levels and product flow with a computer interfaced PLC system. This allows us to monitor our plant from anywhere in the world simply by using a laptop.

Lentil Plant
In the summer of 2003 we constructed a new Lentil Plant. The old plant was completely demolished and the old equipment was sold. A new steel frame building was built to house the equipment.

We have sufficient space for maintenance and easy movement around the equipment. We purchased the complete line of machinery from one supplier, so it is well matched in appearance and operation. The equipment consists of a Cimbria Delta 107 Super Cleaner air/screen machine, a Cimbria Heid TS 360 dry stoner, a Cimbria Heid HSR 16010 indent, and finally a Cimbria Heid GA 310 gravity table. Soon after startup we recognized the benefits of utilizing a destoner. It is shocking how many small stones are in a sample that, previously we couldn’t remove. We are able to perform an excellent job of cleaning with this new plant.
